The Christmas Show, What To Get Dad, & The Treadmill Agreement - RN 013

"Christmas, my child, is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it's Christmas." - Dale Evans

What is Christmas all about?

It's the most wonderful time of the year! I love Christmas and everything about it. I love the real reason we celebrate - the birth of the Christ child - and I love all the other stuff that flashes and shines. I love the singing and the laughter and the giving and the fellowship. I'll talk about the Christmas program my wife and I produced for our local theatre, how hard it is to pick out a gift for my dad, and the gift of excercise equipment for my wife (it was her idea).

The Artist Brainstorm, Positive Feedback, & My Sister and Me - RN 012
"An older sister is a friend and defender - a listener, conspirator, a counsellor and a sharer of delights. And sorrows too." - Pam Brown

What's better than an awesome sister?

I'm planning a new podcast to help artists find their courage and steps moving forward toward making money with their craft. I believe a little bit of positive feedback goes a long way. And my sister and I have a great relationship, so I want to tell a few interesting stories that involve her.

Young Love - RN 011

"Love is like a faucet. It turns off and on." - Billie Holiday

Am I really in love?

There is not much cuter than puppy love. Blind dates are dangerous. What if you're an adult and a very minor child has a thing for you? It all happened in my life and it's all here in the three stories I'll reveal about RJ, LL (Elle), and JW. Do I have your interest? Then take a listen!

Ten Reasons For Stress - RN 010

"It's not the load that breaks you down, it's how you carry it." - Lou Holtz

How can I relieve stress?

The Road Noise podcast is officially in double digits! That's a big deal for a content creator because according to statistics, most podcasts don't make it past seven episodes before they burn out. Not me. I'm going strong. And although I was extremely busy this week and didn't get to record an episode while driving (I didn't go anywhere), I had this one in my back pocket and it's a great way to celebrate the tenth episode.

There's some fantastic life-application content here as I delve into ten of the reasons we tend to get stressed and what we might be able to do to relieve some of it.

TSO, Don't Let The Devil Get You Down, & Make Something With Your Hands - RN 009

"Don't rule out working with your hands. It does not preclude using your head." - Andy Rooney

What can you give as a great Christmas gift?

It's that time of year again! The Trans-Siberian Orchestra rolls into town bringing their unique hard rockin' take on the Christmas music we know and love. I'll give my run down of the latest experience as well as providing some encouragement for when the devil would have you down. And I'll wax poetic on the benefits of making Christmas presents when it's not so easy to buy them.

My Little Girl May Be An Artist, Be Ambitious But Careful, & Santa Claus Taught Me To Broadcast - RN 008

(Let me apologize in advance if the sound seems just a little bit "crunchy".)

"Ambition is is a dream with a V8 engine." - Elvis Presley

I realized my daughter may be destined to follow in her father's footsteps, this week I had to reign in my ambition a tad, and it occurred to me that I have a very cool history with Santa Claus ... He taught me the ways of broadcasting. If you want to take another ride with me, then jump in the passenger seat. I'll do all the talking and driving.

A Smile Makes All The Difference, A Tough Decision, & I Have Listeners - RN 007

"Let us always meet each other with a smile. For the smile is the beginning of love." - Mother Teresa

How powerful is a smile?

Something as simple as a smile and kind word can be all it takes to make the difference in someone's day. I can send the wrong signals at times by being too serious with strangers and I've decided to change that. I've made a big decision in how I spend my time, and I've noticed that this podcast actually has a few dedicated listeners. Here's all that in detail. Visit the website:

I'd love to hear from you.

"Buy less, choose well, and do it yourself." - Dame Vivienne Westwood

Should I just do everything myself?

I'm the sort of person who likes to do things for myself. I can sound a bit like a toddler at times, shouting, "I can do it all by myself!" That's is, for the most part, a good thing. And sometimes it's not. Here I'll tell four stories of the stuff I've been into lately. Three of them are deserving of a pat on the back. The fourth one ... not so much. What can I say? I like to do stuff. Have a listen.

"If you work really hard and you're nice, amazing things will happen." - Conan O'Brien

How can you be a better person?

This one was recorded in July of 2015 after I had just learned a couple of valuable life lessons. Also, on the day of the recording, I learned something about the condition of our society that gets under my skin. In a nutshell, I believe we should think before we act, think before we see, and think before we speak. Want more detail? Have a listen.

Our Family Trip To Universal Studios Wizarding World Of Harry Potter - RN 004

"I don't believe in the magic in my books, but I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book." - J.K. Rowling

Is the Wizarding World Of Harry Potter At Universal Studios worth it?

Our family hasn't taken many vacations, but when we do, we like to make it memorable. So when my son started begging us to take him to The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Orlando, we decided it was time for a road trip. We left our 2 year old with Grandma and made this one birthday present our 11 year old son would never forget. He got his letter to Hogwarts and we were on our way. This is the recap.

My Great Week - RN 003

"Creativity is contagious. Pass it on." - Albert Einstein

Could my week get any better?

Life is usually messy and complicated, but if you look for a cloud's silver lining, you'll find it. Every once in a while, however, a perfect storm of good stuff happens and it becomes hard to even see the clouds. That's how a particular week in April of 2015 worked out for me and I break it down right here. It may (probably will) seem like nothing to most, but it was wonderful for me and I want to share it. Hope you enjoy!

Forty Plus Years Of Dreaming - RN 002

"The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it." - Steve Jobs

What do I want to be when I grow up?

Children have big ideas of what thy want to be when they grow up - a Fireman, a Policeman, an Astronaut, a Vampire Superhero. As we grow older, those ideas take on a sharper focus and sometimes they change completely - Local volunteer fireman, FBI Task Force, NASA Engineer, Regular Superhero.

My life has been no different, but the amount of times my "wanna-be" changed, even into adulthood, might seem alarming. I wonder if your history has seen as many or more side-steps in career ideals as mine has.

This is my timeline.

A Healthy Lifestyle - RN 001

"Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live." - Jim Rohn

How do you live a healthy lifestyle?

When it comes to a healthy lifestyle, most of us can tell stories of a few successes and a whole lot of failures. And when you travel especially, but also even if you sit behind a desk, the workday can be stressful and cause some rather bad habits to form. And it’s not all eating and exercise either. Unhealthy practices reach into our spiritual lives as well and it can all work together to create problems that are hard to dig out from under. In this episode I talk about ways I cope with my tendency to snack while I’m out of town and I get all spiritual from a Christian standpoint about how to keep your mind in the right place. I speak a little about my past addiction to pornography and at the end of the podcast, I’ll offer a couple of ways you can reach me if you need someone to talk to about any issues you might have of your own.

An Emotional Introduction - RN 000

In this very first episode of Road Noise I introduce myself and my vision for this podcast. I travel all over the southeastern United States performing my duties as a granite etcher. I render fine art on gravestones. Because I commute so many miles, I find myself thinking about all sorts of things and I want to share them with anyone who will listen. Am I lonely? Maybe. One thing I do know is that I love to talk and I hope you'll like listening to my ramblings. A warning - this first episode gets tender toward the end as I address my two children and my wife regarding my time spent away from home. I wanted to start off with an honest account for the listener. My hopes, my heart, my dreams ... everything will be on the table as we learn to live life daily, one mile at a time. Ride along with me and keep me company.
